I use video to help my customers not just learn new skills and master new ways of using my low cost alternative to small business accounting software packages like QuickBooks or Peachtree but to teach them other useful business skills such as people management and planning. I am going to walk you through a very straight forward method that will show you how to turn your knowledge into valuable content and sell it through the internet to a world wide audience. The best type of product you can sell is the one you have created and therefore own as one hundred percent of the profits are going to end up in your pocket.
Ok lets get started I am going to assume you have heard of podcasts, iTunes and YouTube, these and online video are central to the approach I going to share with you. These platforms are absolutely brilliant for selling, promoting and building a reputation for whatever information products you have in mind, regardless of whether its how to upgrade your airline seat or replace your small business accounting software.
The best instructional videos I have seen have always been produced using a technique called storyboarding this helps you decide and refine how you to best share your knowledge with your audience. If you have ever given a presentation or a talk using slides made by microsoft powerpoint or apple keynote then you are off to a great start to storyboard your video. You do not have to incur any expense what so ever to create a storyboard, produce a professional quality video and get your work online, in front of your target market and start selling it.
I have tried loads of other tools and experienced a lot of pain doing this and by far the best tool I have used and still use today is TechSmith Camtasia Studio as it will produce videos in YouTube, Podcast, Windows Media Player and Quicktime formats and it has a great library of tutorials which you should watch first (whatever you do, do not download the 30 day trail yet). Get your storyboard sorted and ready and make sure you fully understand how you are going to use the Camtasia software (watch the tutorials…yes all of them!!) before you download the trial as you only have use of the software for thirty days.
OK this was a brief overview of what tools you have to have to hand and get to grips with and in the next lesson which hopefully will be published on this blog in the next few days (owners permitting) I will go through a detailed description of how I create my small business accounting software videos.
